Shoaib Bashir Earns Surprise Inclusion in England's Ashes Team

England have opted for a twelve-player selection just 48 hours ahead of the opening Test match, with Shoaib Bashir securing a surprise place.

Bashir's inclusion indicates that the tourists will wait until the morning of the first Test to decide whether Perth Stadium pitch suit four seamers or the inclusion of a spin bowler.

Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are included in the selected group, showing there are no doubts about their pace bowler’s condition.

The other seamers complete the attack, with the latter most likely to miss out if the spinner makes the final team.

Ground Conditions Favor Pace Bowlers

The England coach had been anticipated to choose an pace-only lineup on a venue that has staged five previous Tests.

In those matches, the majority of dismissals have been taken by seamers, with only a small number to spin bowling.

Of those 40 wickets, the veteran spinner has claimed the bulk, while all visiting spinners combined have only eight.

At a venue renowned for its speed and carry, and whose groundsman, the pitch preparer, stated that these traits are “permanent and not going to change,” a team loaded with seamers is still the probable decision.

Alternative Choices Considered

There had been speculation that Will Jacks could be brought into the side to offer some spin while also bolstering the lower order.

However the coach has chosen to stick with the young spinner, having stated previously that he would be his preferred slow bowler for the Ashes.

In July, Lyon described the English spinner as “OK,” adding that “in my eyes, Jack Leach is still England’s top slow bowler.”

“This is a massive role, and it can be a massive challenge for people who haven’t done it in the previous in these conditions,” he remarked of slow bowling in matches Down Under.

“I’m not going to let my secrets out so they come out and excel out here.”
