The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Triple National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

Jokic was hurt late in the first half in an unintentional coming together with team-mate Spencer Jones.

His teammate landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.

The veteran player, who leads the league season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the injury.

Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the issue.

"Immediately, Jokic realized he was hurt," said Denver coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that is injured, it's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as talented as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We'll move on together. Of course, currently, I am focused about him as a person and the letdown of facing something like that."
